Seatly product help
Save, back up and restore your classes
Find your saved classes, download an editable JSON backup and restore it in another browser. Get help with missing classes and save errors.
Where your classes are saved
Seatly saves classes in this browser on this device. Wait for Saved on this device before closing the tab. There is no cloud copy or automatic sync between devices.
Your classes are tied to the browser profile and site address where you saved them. Clearing site data can remove them, and private browsing may remove them when the session ends. Download a backup to keep a separate copy.
Download one class or all classes
Open Backup and expand Backup and recovery. Choose Download backup for the current class, or Download all classes for every saved class. These JSON files include student names and seating rules. Store them with your other private class records.
Keep the JSON file unchanged so you can restore it. A printed chart or PDF cannot restore an editable class.
- Wait for Saved on this device.
- Choose Backup, expand Backup and recovery, then choose Download backup or Download all classes.
- Check that the browser downloaded the JSON file and that you know where it is saved.
- Keep a recent copy before clearing browser data, changing devices or making major roster changes.
Restore without replacing existing classes
Restoring a supported backup adds new classes and keeps your existing ones. Importing the same file twice creates two separate copies.
- Open the editor in the destination browser and choose Backup.
- Expand Backup and recovery and select the file in Restore JSON backup.
- Review the listed class titles, student counts and seat counts.
- Choose Import as new classes, then select the imported class from the class name menu and check its roster and layout.
If you cannot find a class
Open the class name menu first. Use this layout creates a new, empty class; your previous class may still be in the menu.
Check that you are using the browser profile and site address where you saved the class. If browser data was cleared, restore a downloaded JSON backup. Seatly has no server copy to recover it from.
If Seatly reports an invalid or unsupported backup, keep the original file unchanged. Check that you selected a classroom JSON backup. PDF charts and roster CSV files cannot restore a class.
Save errors and another open tab
When a class is open in another tab, this tab may be read-only. Wait for changes to save in the other tab before taking over editing and reloading. Use one tab at a time for each class.
If saving fails, keep the tab open and download a backup before reloading. Undo only covers the current editing session. A JSON backup lets you restore the class later or on another device.
